Pisgah Forest Camping

Ash Grove Mountain Cabins and Camping offers camping for people coming out to Pisgah Forest, North Carolina. Our walk-to tent sites allow you to experience Pisgah Forest camping the way it was meant to be. No headlights. Virtually no traffic noise. No electronics. Only the golden glow of a campfire, the relaxing sounds of nature, and a sky full of stars.

Each of our campsites has a mulched tent pad, picnic table and a fire ring/grill. The trails by our campsite are well maintained and we provide wheelbarrows to help you load in your gear. There is also a water pump at the bath house with fresh mountain well water that tastes great and is safe to drink. Our camping sites can accommodate small to medium tents and are excellent for hammocks.

Our Camping Sites & Rates

Stellar Tent Sites

  • 1 Tent Site with Max of 4 People: $38.00/night
  • 1 Tent Site with Max of 5 People: $44.00/night
  • 2 Tent Site with Max of 6 People: $49.00/night
  • 2 Tent Site with Max of 8 People: $54.00/night

Each camping site has specific size restrictions. Make sure your tent fits within the site's limitations.

Techno Tent Sites

  • 1 tent per site (small to large tent) with maximum of 6 people.
  • Up to 4 people is $45.00/night.
  • For 5th and 6th persons, it is an extra $5 per person per night.

For those who need to bring along their modern conveniences, our Techno Tent Sites are the place for you. These are 4 tent-friendly sites that have water and electricity for campers. While we have left them as natural as possible, they are not secluded. These tent sites also double as tent or RV sites. Our techno tent sites can accommodate either 1 tent OR 1 RV/van/truck-top camper, and a dining canopy or screen room. They include a water spigot, electric outlets, a picnic table and fire ring/grill.

RV & Trailer Sites

  • Single sites for 1 trailer or RV. Maximum of 6 people.
  • Up to 4 people $45.00/night.
  • For 5th and 6th persons, add $5 per person per night.
  • No tent, other than a dining canopy, are permitted on RV/Trailer sites.

The Elf Shelf

  • Holds a maximum of 3 people for $49.00/night.
  • Maximum of 3 adults (no small children at this site) and a 2-night minimum on weekends.

gnome home campingThe Elf Shelf is a 3-sided and roofed camping platform. It has a fold-down raised platform that comfortably fits 2 sleeping bags. You can also bring a queen air mattress and fit a sleeping bag on the floor. With camping at The Elf Shelf, you are at a secluded location in the heart of Pisgah Forest. This drive-to site has a water spigot nearby, but it does not have electricity. It is convenient to the bathhouse and has a picnic table and fire ring/grill. Parking available for only 1 vehicle.

The Gnome Home

  • Holds a maximum of 2 people for $59.00/night.
  • Maximum of 2 people and a 2-night minimum on weekends.

Inside The Gnome Home is a raised platform with room for a queen air mattress or 2 sleeping bags of your provision, storage for your gear under the platform, 2 screened windows, and is convenient to the bathhouse.  Outside there is a picnic table, grill, fire ring, electrical outlet and nearby water spigot, as well as parking for 1 vehicle.

Our Pisgah Forest Camping Amenities

These amenities are available to everyone camping at our Pisgah Forest campsites:

  • Full Moon Bathhouse: A heated bathhouse that is clean and fully equipped with flush toilets, sinks, & hot showers (no coins needed).
  • Water at Ash Grove is clean and potable.
  • Coin-op laundry and dish washing station.
  • Free Wi-Fi is available in all the paved areas of the campground, as well as at the bathhouse.
  • Small playground and horseshoes.
  • Small camp store with the essentials.
  • Nature trails, a small stream & miniature waterfall, and the beauty and serenity of our mountain setting.
  • We recycle and have appropriate bins for sorting recycling from trash!

Pisgah Forest Hiking Trails

When you go camping in Pisgah Forest, there is a chance you are doing so in order to experience some of the beauty of nature. And what better way than to go hiking at one of Pisgah Forest's notable hiking trails? Let's take a look at some of the more notable hiking trails and experiences in Pisgah Forest when you decide to go camping at Ash Grove.

  • Wiseman’s View Trail is a short, roughly quarter-mile paved path situated at an elevation of over 3,800 feet. The trail leads to a stunning overlook of Linville Gorge, along with sweeping views of notable peaks such as Table Rock and Hawksbill Mountain. At the end, visitors can enjoy the scenery from a spacious viewing area or access two turret-style platforms via brief stairways for an even closer look.
  • The Biltmore Campus National Recreation Trail at the Cradle of Forestry is a one-mile paved path that leads visitors through a series of historic buildings and exhibits showcasing life and architecture at the Biltmore Forest School in the early 1900s. Along the self-guided route, interpretive stops highlight features such as a one-room schoolhouse, general store, cabins, blacksmith shop, and vegetable gardens. The trail winds through a scenic hardwood forest and begins at the Forest Discovery Center.
  • Cradle of Forestry’s Forest Festival Trail is a 1.3-mile trail that meanders along the paved trail to view an historic 1915 Climax locomotive and a reconstructed sawmill. Forest practices and issues are featured at other stops along the wooded interpretive trail.  The trail begins at the Forest Discovery Center.
  • Roan Mountain Gardens National Recreation Trail is a 1.5-mile paved route that winds through native rhododendron thickets and a high-elevation spruce-fir forest. At around 6,000 feet, the area provides excellent birdwatching and a chance to observe plant and animal species more typical of northern climates. An observation deck offers sweeping views that, on clear days, stretch to the Black Mountains and the Great Craggy Mountains. The trailhead includes picnic tables, restrooms, and interpretive displays.
